Do you want to transfer your Windows license to the new PC you just bought? You’ve come to the right place!

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to transfer a Windows license very simply from computer to another computer.

The transfer of a Windows license between two computers is a 2 step process:

In the first step, we uninstall the product key from the PC on which we want to remove the Windows license (we will call it PC 1).
In the second step, we install the product key on the new PC on which we want to use the Windows license (we will call it PC 2).

So let’s get started!

Step 1: Uninstalling the Windows product key on PC 1

Before uninstalling the Windows product key on PC #1, we will first make sure that the product key is properly installed and that Windows is properly activated. For this purpose:

  • Now open the Activation page of the Settings using this command.

Then check the Windows license activation status .

Now open a command prompt as administrator.
To uninstall the Windows product key, you need the activation ID associated with that product key. To find out the activation ID, type the following command:

slmgr /dlv

A window will open with your Windows license info . Locate and note the activation ID . In our case it’s “4de7cb65-cdf1-4de9-8ae8-e3cce27b9f2c” .

Uninstall the product key by using the following command :

slmgr /upk 4de7cb65-cdf1-4de9-8ae8-e3cce27b9f2c

Make sure you replace the Activation Id with your own.

Ok now onto the second PC.

Step 2: Install the Windows product key on PC 2

  • Open a command prompt as administrator and enter the command below:
slmgr /ipk {You Windows License key}

Your Windows product key is now installed.

  • ┬áNow enter the following command to finished the Windows activation:
slmgr /ato

Confirmation message should appear telling you that Windows has been activated!

And that’s it you have successfully transferred your Windows product key to your new computer. If you have any questions, you can ask them in the comments below.
